Q: How to remove, inspect and install the Control Arm?
A: To separate the lower control arm Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle, loosen the wheel lug nuts, apply the parking brake, and raise the vehicle. Remove the wheel and the lock pin from the castle nut. Install the ball joint separating tool, apply grease, and release the ball joint stud. Remove the castle nut and separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle. On 2007 Acura MDX models, remove the small arm linked to the system sensor. Inspect the control arm for bends and bushings for cracks. Replace if necessary. On 2007 Acura models, the rear bushing can be replaced by removing the nut. Install the new bushing with a new nut. Tighten the ball joint stud castle nut and use a new lock pin. Use new mounting fasteners for the control arm. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts. Check the front wheel alignment and adjust if necessary. For 2007 Acura MDX models, have the vehicle checked by a dealer if any warning lights stay on.
