Acura Legend MAP Sensor

Acura Legend MAP Sensor sends accurate manifold pressure information to the ECU to allow fuel flow to be in line with incoming air for constant power and economy. Mounted on the intake manifold of Acura vehicles, the MAP Sensor senses absolute pressure and not vacuum and aids in the speed density strategy that helps maintain proper air fuel ratios because of changes in altitude or changes to throttle. In each Legend generation, this MAP Sensor also allows the computer to conduct self-checks on systems such as the EGR valve, lighting up the dash when numbers are out of place. The design remained fairly consistent, a small plastic body containing a solid-state pressure transducer, inherited from the early multiport injected Legend models to later Acura updates. As manifolds changed from heavy metal to lighter composite to help keep the air charge cool, the MAP Sensor continued to convert pressure and, with an intake air temperature signal, guide precise fuel mass. Drivers perceive faster response, consistent cold starts, and strong torque because the Acura Legend computer always has accurate manifold data thanks to its dedicated MAP Sensor.

Acura Legend MAP Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to check and replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor, Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor, MAP Sensor and Oxygen Sensor on Acura Legend?
    A:
All Legend models and 1986 and 1987 Integra models require checking the oxygen sensor by turning the ignition switch to OFF, removing the ALTERNATOR SENSE fuse for 10 seconds on all Legends or the HAZARD fuse in the main fusebox on Integra, checking fuel pressure, warming the engine, blocking the rear wheels, raising the vehicle, locating the oxygen sensor, starting the engine, disconnecting the wire harness, raising engine speed, measuring voltage with a digital voltmeter, replacing the sensor if test results are incorrect, or checking the wire harness if results are correct. The MAP sensor diagnosis requires checking the vacuum hose and electrical connector followed by turning off the ignition switch and removing the correct fuse to warm up the engine and disconnect the electrical connector before inserting a test harness and measuring voltage as a replacement MAP sensor is needed if voltage checks pass otherwise seek professional diagnosis of the circuit. The crank angle sensor employs two sensors which reside at the right end of the front cylinder head and within the distributor for Legend models while requiring measurement of CRANK circuit resistance and CYL circuit continuity before deciding whether to replace the sensor or to get the system diagnosed when correct measurements are obtained. To replace this sensor one must remove the cruise control actuator together with the timing belt cover and timing belt and bolts before inserting a new sensor. Prior to dealing with the throttle angle sensor maintenance you need to shut off the ignition and untie the correct fuse then heat your engine before disconnecting the electrical connector and checking the voltage output before deciding if you should replace or check the circuit depending on test results. The replacement process begins by disconnecting the electrical connector followed by screw removal. After inserting the new switch and reattaching the electrical connector the task completes. To test the intake air temperature sensor start by disconnecting its electrical connector then measure its resistance before replacing it with a new unit or seeking further vehicle assessment if its condition is acceptable. The replacement procedure requires letting go of the electrical connector while removing screws before performing the removal steps in reverse order.
