Acura TL Parking Brake Shoe

The Acura TL Parking Brake Shoe supplies the friction necessary to lock the rear wheels to keep the sedan put when it is parked. Early Acura TL models with rear drum brakes made use of service brake shoes doubling as the Parking Brake Shoe, with a hand lever or foot pedal pulling cables and linkages to press the lining against the drum interior. As later generations of Acura TL applied rear disc brakes, two different approaches were applied. Some versions use caliper actuated mechanisms where cables squeeze the main caliper pistons while others hide a small drum inside the rotor that carries a separate Parking Brake Shoe set which is also cable driven for familiar pedal feel. The updated Acura TL trims introduce electronic assistance, an electric motor tugging on the same set of cables or turning caliper gears, to automatically set the brake as the gear selector reaches Park. For all styles, each Parking Brake Shoe must remain free of corrosion or dirt as seized cables or frozen adjusters can cause the lever to travel too far or refuse to release at all. Regular use maintains the freshness of the surfaces of the Parking Brake Shoe and dependable holding power.

With brake system cleaner clean the brake parts and make sure to get it all and do not use compressed air. Disassemble one brake shoe side at a time following theprovided illustrations, for reference. Install the brake disc and retainers screws, adjust the rear mounting parking brake shoe, install the caliper bracket, and Brake Caliper, replacing and tightening fastener to specified torque values. Then, install the wheel and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque. A quarter mile, and pull the parking brake lever up, putting in a pulling force, and allow the system to cool for 10 minutes, then new shoes for breaking in the new shoes, set and release the parking brake a few times. For the parking brake pedal, put it into one click, drive a quarter mile at around 30 miles per hour, and let the brake out, let it cool about 10 minutes and go through it again. Lastly, pull up on the parking brake, and if you put it at the first click setting, that would be the right setting.
