The left part of the engine contains either V-belts or V-ribbed belts, which are also known as "fan" belts. They must be properly maintained and well-adjusted because of their importance to the engines operation and their composition (they become slack over time due to their material combination and high tension strength). This is why they should be inspected frequently. Depending on what accessories are in place, a different number of belts may be used. In order to check, turn off the engine and then with the help of a torch inspect belts closely for cracks, delamination, fraying, glazed surfaces and any other sign of damage. One can also determine if a belt is tight by pushing it halfway between pulleys. If there's any adjustment process that has to be done, this can involve moving the bracket which holds a particular accessory driven by the belt. Some components include an adjustable bolt and a pivot bolt which have to be unscrewed before moving them. Make sure you tighten this after making your adjustments. To remove the belt; slip it off the crankshaft pulley and take it out. For example you might need have to first remove air conditioning compressor belt before taking away alternator belt but just in case you replace both at once.Besides marking each of these with its respective groove on every belt make sure that they fit perfectly in grooves in new ones.Change or adjust your drive belt(s) using those steps described above.
