The EVAP System can be described as a Fuel Evaporative Emission Control. This system functions by storing fuel vapors in charcoal canister from the fuel tank until they mix with incoming air within the intake manifold, and subsequently burnt within the combustion chambers of cylinder. A strong smell of fuel coming from under the hood is usually the most common sign of an evaporative emission system that has failed. The charcoal canister and its connections should be examined if there is any kind of smell that smells like petrol in the engine compartment.
