Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands while applying the parking brake and blocking the rear wheels to prevent rolling. Remove the wheel, then loosen the tie-rod end jam nut using a back-up wrench to keep the tie-rod end from turning. Mark the relationship of the tie-rod end to the threaded portion of the tie-rod to ensure the toe-in setting is restored upon reassembly by making an alignment mark on the exposed threads along the edge of the tie-rod end. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the nut from the tie-rod end ballstud a few turns, then disconnect the tie-rod end ballstud from the steering arm using a puller or balljoint separator tool. Remove the nut from the ballstud, separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle, and unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod. Thread the tie-rod end onto the tie-rod to the marked position and connect it to the steering arm, then install the nut onto the ballstud and tighten it to the specified torque, ensuring to install a new cotter pin, tightening the nut if necessary for cotter pin insertion without loosening it. Securely tighten the jam nut, install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque. Finally, have the front end alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
