    Q:
How to Properly Test and Replace Fuel Injectors on an Acura Legend? Posted by Customer
    A:
Run your engine until it reaches its usual working temperature. Before examining the injectors, pull the EACV 2P connection off on Legend cars. Pulling each injector plug while the car is idling one at a time should reveal any change in the engine's performance. A small pry tool or screwdriver is needed to loosen the clip on the plug. Keep note of the engine's idle change following the connection and unplugging of each injector. If unhooking each injector individually makes the engine idle the same amount lower every time, the injectors are functioning properly. Then move on to the following test. Turn off the engine, disconnect the connector from the injector, test the resistance between its two terminals, which should be between 1.5 and 2.5 ohms; if different, switch to a new injector. Check with your high-resistance voltmeter or special injector harness test light on the connector ends to see if your readings match the manufacturer's specs. When the injector reads voltage between zero and two volts, its circuit is working; when there's no voltage, look at the resistor. When the injector resistor works correctly, look for any issues with wire connections and absence of damage between the resistor and the injector, as well as any problems with the ECU's wire connections to the injector. Disconnect the ground cable, reduce fuel pressure, take off the air intake ducting, disconnect fuel and vacuum hoses from fuel pressure regulator, remove wiring grounds from fuel rail, then unplug fuel injectors and unscrew fuel lines from the fuel rail. Unscrew the mounting nuts and separate the fuel rail, taking out the injectors and raising the rail higher; on Legend cars, eliminate the phenolic spacers first to loosen things up. Take out each fuel injector from the fuel rail. Throw away both seal rings. Before deciding where to toss the ring, look at its location on the injector. Dip new cushion rings in clean engine oil, put one on each injector. Do the same with new O-rings, and place them on the injector(s). Insert each injector into a fuel rail hole with engine oil on the new O-rings, which go into the injector bores. Soak new seal rings with fresh oil, and push them down into their right places on the intake manifold's injector holes. Put the injector and fuel rail assembly on your intake manifold, aligning the electrical connector's centerline on each injector with its matching mark on the fuel rail. Then tighten the fuel rail nuts to the proper torque forcing them evenly. The rest of installing the piece is just the opposite of when we took it out. Pressing the ignition once fills the fuel rail system with fuel. Repeat this about three times; then, check all fuel feed, rail, and injector tubes for leaks.
