To remove the oil pan, first disconnect the negative cable from the battery, block the rear wheels, set the parking brake, and securely raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Next, remove the lower splash shields, drain the engine oil, and take off the oil filter. Then, remove the center engine mount and unbolt the longitudinal crossmember by taking out the bolts from its ends. Detach the exhaust pipe from the manifolds and remove the lower bellhousing cover if equipped. After that, remove the bolts around the perimeter of the oil pan and lower it; if it is stuck, use a soft-face hammer to break it loose without damaging the mating surfaces. For installation, use a scraper to eliminate all old sealant from the block and oil pan, ensuring not to gouge the aluminum block, and clean the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone. Check that the threaded bolt holes in the block are clean and inspect the oil pan flange for distortion, flattening it if necessary. Inspect the oil pump pick-up screen assembly for damage and install it with a new O-ring if it was removed, tightening the fasteners to the specified torque. Position a new gasket on the oil pan, carefully place the oil pan on the engine block, and install the bolts, tightening them from the center out in three steps. Finally, complete the installation in reverse order, adding oil and a new oil filter, then run the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks.
