The temperature indicator system for coolant is a combination of an instrument panel mounted temperature gauge and an engine mounted coolant temperature sending unit. For the Legend, the latter is located near the screw that bleeds air out next to the upper radiator hose. Although certain vehicles have more than one sending unit, only one is necessary for this system that indicates overheating. If in case the engine's cold condition does not indicate overheating pull up wiring between the dash and short circuit at ground with the sender unit. To test whether the circuit is faulty or not, let us briefly ground this wire on to it while turning on ignition but make sure that engine doesn't start as it may be harmful. A defective engine-gage can be replaced with a new one which must deflect full scale if it operates properly; otherwise keep off getting rid of any Japanese wire circuits in its gauge wiring system. When there is need to replace such sending units, unscrew them quickly from engines then fitings sealant onto their threads before installation takes place. One should ensure that defective sending units are removed from cooled engines. This would necessitate catching some coolant loss as these units are being taken out of engins.You still have to check fluid level after replacement has been done.
