Relieve fuel tank and system pressure, disconnect the negative battery terminal and the connector from the fuel pump module. Raise the vehicle, remove the rear exhaust system, fuel filler neck cover, and disconnect the fuel supply, return lines, and EVAP vent hose. Disconnect the bypass solenoid valve hose, EVAP hose, and ABS rear wheel speed sensors. Remove the rear stabilizer bar, heat shield, parking brake cable brackets, and rear brake caliper bolts. Support the rear suspension subframe/fuel tank assembly with a jack, remove the mounting bolts and lower the assembly. Remove the fuel tank strap bolts and straps, lift the fuel tank out. Reverse for installation.

The fuel tanks in the vehicles covered are not repairable. If the fuel tank has been removed for cleaning, it's advisable to engage a professional. Even after cleaning and flushing the fuel tank, combustible fumes can persist. When the fuel tank is removed, it must not be placed in an area prone to open flames that could ignite the emanating fumes.
