Always disconnect the negative cable first and hook it up last to avoid shorting the battery with the tool used to loosen the cable clamps. Disconnect both cables from the battery terminals by detaching the negative and then the positive cable clamps. Remove the battery hold-down clamp by taking off the two nuts and detaching the clamp. Carefully lift out the heavy battery, and if available, use a battery strap to make the process easier. While the battery is out, inspect the carrier for corrosion. If corrosion has reached the battery support, remove the bolts and lift the support out, cleaning any deposits from the metal to prevent further oxidation. When replacing the battery, ensure it is identical in dimensions, amperage rating, and cold cranking rating. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
