Acura Legend A/C Accumulator

The Acura Legend A/C Accumulator acts as the gatekeeper for the cooling system as it removes moisture and debris before the refrigerant returns to the compressor. This cylinder-shaped canister is located on the low pressure line between the evaporator and compressor and is home to a desiccant bag that soaks up water while screens catch any gritty particles to keep the oil clean and prevent internal rust. Within the climate loop, Acura places the A/C Accumulator to provide maximum filtering efficiency. Across all Legend generations, the same low side placement allows gravity and refrigerant flow to direct unwanted liquid into the A/C Accumulator where it is held safely away from the delicate compressor. Systems that instead use a receiver drier mount that part on the high pressure line, but both pieces share the moisture absorbing bag, are shown as two main styles found in automotive air conditioning. Legend models rely on the low side design, so replacement of a saturated A/C Accumulator becomes a necessity because flushing alone cannot remove trapped contaminants. This is an excellent practice that allows Acura owners to avoid expensive repairs. Routine replacement keeps Acura cabins cool, maintains stable pressures, and helps preserve Legend compressors, making the A/C Accumulator a little part with a big protective role.

Acura Legend A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the A/C Accumulator on an Acura Legend?
    A:
Have the refrigerant discharged and recycled by an air condition technician. Then, disconnect the ground cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, disconnect the refrigerant lines and remove the mounting bolts. On the Integra, the A/C Accumulator is located below the headlight on the driver's side. It's necessary to remove the lower splash pan on the driver's side for access. After that, remove the mounting bolts and lift the A/C Accumulator out of the vehicle. Installation is simply the reverse of removal. Finally, have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by the shop that discharged it. If the accumulator was replaced, have them add 1/3 ounce of refrigeration oil.
