Acura Legend Release Bearing Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to remove, inspect and install the Clutch Disc,Clutch Fork,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing?
A: Access to the clutch components is normally accomplished by removing the transaxle, leaving the engine in the vehicle. To support the clutch disc during removal, install a clutch alignment tool through the clutch disc hub. Carefully inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks and turn each bolt a little at a time to loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts. Inspect the flywheel for cracks, heat checking, grooves and other obvious defects and the lining on the clutch disc for loose rivets, distortion, cracks, broken springs and other obvious damage. Clean the flywheel and pressure plate machined surfaces with brake cleaner, lacquer thinner or acetone and position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the flywheel with the clutch held in place with an alignment tool. Center the clutch disc by ensuring the alignment tool extends through the splined hub and into the pocket in the crankshaft. Lubricate the inner groove of the release bearing and install the clutch release bearing. Install the transaxle and all components removed previously and tighten all fasteners.
  • Q: How to Remove and Install the Clutch Release Bearing and Clutch Fork on Acura Legend?
A: To remove the clutch release bearing, disconnect the clutch cable and unbolt the clutch release cylinder. Remove the transaxle and slide off the release bearing on Legend models, or remove the release bearing fork-to-release shaft bolt and slide the shaft out on lntegra models. Check the bearing for damage and replace if needed. Lubricate the bearing, forkball socket, fork ends, and pushrod socket with high-temperature grease. Attach the bearing to the fork on Legend models, slide it onto the transaxle input shaft, and position the assembly on the input shaft on lntegra models. Align the holes, install and tighten the bolt, and apply grease to the face of the bearing. The rest of the installation is the reverse of removal.
