To begin, disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then remove the spark plug connectors, wires, and brackets from the spark plugs, setting them aside. Unplug the oil temperature sensor located on top of the rear valve cover and detach the breather hose from the cover fitting. Next, remove the retaining bolts and detach the top cover; if it is stuck, gently bump the end with a block of wood and a hammer to loosen it, taking care not to damage the sealing surfaces to avoid future oil leaks. Remove the old gasket and seal washers, and clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and valve cover, also inspecting the PCV valve by removing the small cover from the front valve cover. Position a new gasket in the groove and install new seal washers on the bolts before installing the cover and tightening the bolts to the specified torque in three equal steps. For the side covers, remove the bolts around the perimeter of the cover, detaching the ground cable from the front cover and the wiring harness brackets from both front and rear covers. Detach the cover from the engine, using the same method to loosen it if necessary, while ensuring not to damage the sealing surfaces. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and valve cover, position a new gasket in the groove, and install the cover, tightening the bolts to the specified torque in two equal steps. Finally, reinstall the remaining parts, run the engine, and check for oil leaks.
