Acura MDX Intake Manifold is responsible for directing air or air-fuel mixture into cylinders. The product allows for more seamless power delivery and good mileage. The earlier Acura flagship crossovers applied a heavy aluminum or cast iron Intake Manifold where a carburetor or TBI electronic fuel mixing system was fitted as the mixing before entry. However, subsequent MDX versions adopted multiport injection which sprayed fuel at the runner ends for better atomization. The updated models feature a new design in the Intake Manifold with no hot, dirty exhaust gas entering it. Only cool, clean air enters the manifold on these updated engines which use gasoline direct injection. Further, the Intake Manifold is also lighter now, with the use of lightweight composite plastic that replaced metal to cut mass, lower heat soak and improve combustion speed. The runners in the Intake Manifold take advantage of Helmholtz resonance and even an optional variable length feature so torque develops quickly at low rpm yet horsepower is strong up high, benefits enjoyed by all MDX eras. The dual upper and lower sections of the system are bolted together with molded gaskets. In addition, there are some coolant passages and housing sensors that report temperature and pressure to the ECU. This goes along with the core Acura philosophy of dependable performance. Furthermore, a tight Intake Manifold seal maintains balanced mixtures across the MDX powerplant.

- Q: How to access and work on the upper and lower Intake Manifold on the Acura MDX?A:To begin working on the upper intake manifold, you must first relieve its fuel pressure as well as disconnect the battery. Then, take off the engine cover, breather hose, air intake duct, accelerator cable, and throttle body connections. Take away the intake manifold cover together with the upper intake manifold also if it is there remove the spacer plate. Mount a new gasket and then attach a new spacer and finally fix up the upper intake manifold by tightening all nuts and bolts in place. At this point reconnect your battery and check the coolant level before moving to lower intake manifold. After that remove upper intake manifold together with fuel rails then take apart two lower intake manifold sections.
