Acura RL Piston Rings
Piston Rings in the Acura RL function to seal the combustion chamber and keep pressure above the piston for powerful, clean engine performance. The function of Piston Rings is to create a split ring seal between the aluminum pistons and the cylinder wall in close contact with a limiting run-in. They also help guide excess oil back to the sump and transfer combustion heat into the engine block. The Piston Rings of every Acura V6 utilized in the RL must match the cylinder hone pattern to create a proper seal and prevent blow-by. Both the earlier and later RL engines use the three-ring pack layout, but the materials and thickness have changed to enhance durability and efficiency. The top compression Piston Rings are usually made from ductile iron or steel. Another feature of the top compression ring is that it comes with a maximum plasma moly or chrome coating because of the significantly high heat and the high road temperatures it has to endure. The second or lower ring is conventionally cast iron since the temperatures it operates under are not so high. The newer 1 mm and 2 mm steel Piston Rings are thinner than older, thicker versions, which helps to reduce friction, more closely follow the bore, and lessen the weight of the rotating assembly. Piston Rings allow every Acura RL to run properly, manage oil consumption, and deliver reliable performance when set with the right end gap. The Acura RL is a four-door luxurious sedan that seats five. It has impressive safety credentials and gets top IIHS frontal offset and side collision test scores. It also comes with standard side impact as well as curtain airbags. The Acura RL is powered by either a 3.5L V6 with 210 hp or a 3.7L V6 with 300 horsepower and variable valve timing.
