How to Remove and Install a Starter Motor on an Acura TL?

Unplug the cable from the battery's negative terminal. For 2004 and subsequent versions, take out the tray with the battery. On models between 1999 and 2001 years of release, loosen the automatic transmission fluid cooler hose from its starter motor bracket. The harness clamp should be detached from the starter motor on 2004 and later models. Remove both cables and wire from solenoid terminals that are located on top of this starter module. Take off bolts securing the starter motor in place before extracting it entirely.Unscrewed mounting bolts would meant freeing space for easy removal of starter motor.Installation is reversal of part's elimination. Tighten up those mounting bolts for effective fastening of starting gear to engine.Be sure that nuts are tightened so as to avoid vibration due to loose connections between mating surfaces.

Acura TL Starter Motor

Acura TL Starter Motor provides the burst of rotational force that spins the crankshaft so the engine can fire on its own. Across the Acura range, the system is reliable. When you turn the key to start, it energizes a thick cable fed solenoid which closes the circuit, slides the pinion into the flywheel and supplies the current to the Starter Motor armature. Inside, the Starter Motor contains a shaft-mounted armature surrounded by field coils or permanent magnets, brushes, and a commutator, all working to create the magnetic push that drives rotation. In certain model years, the design shifted from direct drive to a gear reduction style Starter Motor with a compact reduction gear between armature and pinion, which allows the motor to spin faster while delivering higher torque and reduced weight. Both versions have some common safety features such as an overrunning clutch that lets the pinion disengage the instant the engine starts and the neutral or clutch safety switch that blocks activation if the TL is in gear, protecting the drivetrain and preventing accidental motion. Regular 12-volt electric design remains the only Starter Motor type ever installed at the factory, with no pneumatic or hydraulic alternatives on any Acura TL trim.
