Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then mark and detach the electrical connectors from the alternator. Loosen the alternator adjusting bolt and pivot bolt, detach the drivebelt, remove the bolts, and lift out the alternator. If replacing the alternator, take the old one when purchasing a replacement unit, ensuring the new or rebuilt unit looks identical to the old one, with matching terminals in number, size, and location, as well as identical identification numbers stamped into the housing or printed on a tag. Many new or rebuilt alternators may not have a pulley installed, so switching the pulley from the old unit to the new one may be necessary, and it's advisable to check the shop's policy regarding pulleys, as some may perform this service for free. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, and after installation, adjust the drivebelt tension and check the charging voltage to verify proper operation of the alternator.
