Have the air conditioning system refrigerant discharged and recovered by an air conditioning technician, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the drivebelt, remove the condenser fan, remove the alternator, set the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands, remove the splash shield from under the engine compartment, disconnect the compressor clutch electrical connector, clutch wire harness, low-pressure line fitting, mounting bolt, disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor, plug or cap all openings immediately to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture, remove the compressor mounting bolts, carefully guide the compressor out of the engine compartment, if a new compressor is being installed, follow the directions with the compressor regarding the draining of excess oil prior to installation, any refrigerant oil added must be compatible with R-134a refrigerant, the clutch may have to be transferred from the original compressor to the new one, installation is the reverse of removal, replace all 0-rings with new ones specifically made for air conditioning system use and compatible with R-134a refrigerant, lubricate them with refrigerant oil, tighten the mounting fasteners and the line fitting nuts, reconnect the battery, have the system evacuated, recharged and leak-tested by the shop that discharged it.
