Regular inspection of the flexible hoses connecting the steel brake lines to the rear brakes and front calipers should be conducted every six months to identify cracks, chafing, leaks, blisters, or other damage. Replacement steel and flexible brake lines are readily available from dealer parts departments and auto parts stores. During installation, maintain a minimum 3/4-inch clearance between the brake line and any moving or vibrating components. To disconnect a hose and line, employ a flare-nut wrench to break loose the brake line-to-hose fitting, then remove the clip and slide the hose out of the bracket. When dealing with two hoses, use regular wrenches on the hose fittings and ensure they are connected without twisting or straining. Fixed brake lines usually have retention clips along their length; always remove and reinstall these clips or replace them when damaged to prevent line vibration that could lead to breakage. Steel brake lines should be used for replacement, never copper tubing. Properly support the steel line within brackets, allowing sufficient clearance from moving or hot parts. After installation, verify the master cylinder fluid level and top up if needed, then bleed the brake system and conduct thorough brake testing before driving the vehicle in traffic.
