When you have an Integra, 2WD Civic, or CR-V, and want to fix the steering joint cover, put the car in straight forward with its front wheels, take off the upper and lower clamps, unlock the plastic retaining clip, and pull out the cover carefully. Make sure the flange holes line up with the locating pins in the engine wall. Fix the steering wheel first to stop its movement, otherwise you could break the airbag cable reel. Record where the universal joint of the intermediate shaft connects to the Rack And Pinion input shaft, and take the pinch bolts off. Slide the intermediate shaft off the input shaft. When getting your car ready for work, put on the parking brake, unlatch your front wheel nuts, lift the front end, and prop it up with jackstands before taking wheels off. Take out the shift and extension rods or the shift cable from the transaxle, then remove either the entire catalytic converter or just the front part of the exhaust pipe. Stretch and push the steering gear to the right without the tie-rod ends. Put a catch pan under the steering gear, detach all power steering fluid hoses, and put on protective caps to keep dirt from entering while you work. When present, take off the chassis stiffener bracket as part of your work. Keep the steering gear supported. Unbolt its mounting nuts from both sides, rotate the gear to face forward, lower the left end beyond the frame to direct removal. To put in the rack, follow these steps in reverse: center it inside the housing, ensure matching wall grooves align when joining the intermediate shaft, tighten all bolts, fill the reservoir with the proper fluid, empty air from the steering system.
