To remove the tailgate trim panel, open the tailgate and cover the bottom and sides with pads or cloths for protection. Remove the four screws from the top of the trim and drive it towards the right using a rubber mallet. Remove the upper clips and lower bolts, then take off the trim panel. For the tailgate upper handle, disconnect the operating rod and remove the handle retaining bolts. Disengage the retaining hooks and remove the handle. To remove the tailgate lower handle, detach the cable retaining clip and remove the retaining nuts. Disconnect the handle and lower cable. For the tailgate latch synchronizer, detach various components from the synchronizer and remove it from the tailgate. To remove the tailgate upper left latch, open the tailgate and remove the trim panel. Detach the lock and sensor rods, remove the latch fasteners, and pull out the latch. For the tailgate upper right latch, open the tailgate and remove the trim panel. Detach the lock rod, remove the latch bolts, and detach the latch. For the tailgate right lower hinge/latch, open the tailgate and remove the trim panel. Detach the lock and sensor rods, remove the hinge bolts, and detach the hinge. To remove the tailgate support cable, open the tailgate halfway and remove the bolts from the cable at the striker and tailgate. For the tailgate, open it in the drop-down position and remove the trim panel. Remove the rear bumper and energy absorbers, disconnect electrical connectors, and unbolt the striker and hinge. Close the tailgate until the top latches engage, then remove the remaining hinge bolts and striker bolts. Pull the upper handle and lift the tailgate away from the bed. To remove the left lower tailgate hinge, remove the tailgate and detach the hinge bolts.
