You don't need much effort to do this job if your Civic or Integra has an empty fuel tank. First, take off the fuel tank filler cap to keep pressure from building up, then drain the pressure from the fuel system. Disconnect the cable from the car's battery negative terminal, but remember to get the proper anti-theft code if your stereo has one. Get rid of hot gas from your fuel tank through two ways: take out a tank drain plug and pump fuel into a legal gas container, or use a fuel suction tool to suck it all out. Begin by taking off the rear seat, and disconnecting the fuel level sending unit wiring, fuel pump connections, and hose tubes. Put jackstands under the vehicle to keep it stable. Then, take off the splash panels covering the fuel tank and lines. Buick Civics have just one large panel, but Integra models have two small panels. Take off and unhook all the fuel hoses and hold-down parts labeled by name. With a jack, keep the fuel tank steady while you lift it up with wooden blocks under the jack's stand. Then, remove both securing straps on the fuel tank and fold them downward. After removing the straps and jacking up the tank, simply roll it out from the car. To install it, just follow these steps backward.

If the fuel tank is removed from the vehicle, it must not be placed in an area where sparks or open flames could ignite the fumes.
