    Q:
How to check and replace the PCV Valve and PCV Hose for the Acura MDX? Posted by Customer
    A:
PCV system is an acronym that stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. It reduces the emissions of hydrocarbons in the environment by drawing fresh air into the crankcase where it mixes with the blow-by gases. The PCV valve then pulls this mixture to the intake manifold. When these vapors flow, they are controlled by the PCV valve which helps maintain idle quality. Fresh air inlet hose in Acura and Honda models is used to draw fresh air into the crankcase from two places, that is, the air intake duct and valve cover. Check hoses for damage and inspect for vacuum at idle on PCV valve, as well as worn out PCV valve grommet when examining PCV system.

    Q:
How to Inspect, Maintain, and Replace the PCV Hose on an Acura TL? Posted by Customer
    A:
It is important that hoses in the engine, accessory, and emission systems be regularly checked because very high temperatures under the hood can cause the hoses to wear out. Uncover hose cracks, clamps at liberty, material hardening, or leaks particularly from where clamps are used to prevent the hose from leaking. Pay close attention to the PCV system hose that vents crankcase blow-by gas into the intake manifold through a rubber tube via the PCV valve which minimizes hydrocarbon emissions. Inspect this hose for any damage and make sure it is not blocked up. Vacuum tubes of different colors play an important role in several systems; when replacing them ensure they meet required material specifications . When more than one hose is removed remember to tag all hoses and fittings. Moreover, inspect plastic T-fittings for cracks and kinks in hoses. Use a small piece of vacuum hose as a stethoscope to find vacuum leaks. When checking fuel hoses be ready with spilled fuel if you disconnect them; check for deterioration, chafing or cracks especially at bends and fitting points. Use your injection system's designed hose when you replace it. Replace spring type clamps with screw clamps instead of taking off Hoses with spring type clamps. Metal lines should also be inspected for bending crimping or cracking particularly those connected to fuel lines that have sections replaced with seamless steel tubing for strength . Lastly examine metal brake lines where they enter the master cylinder and brake proportioning unit for any cracks and loose fittings then carry out an extensive inspection of whole brake system immediately because it means there is brake fluid leakage.

    Q:
What is the function and configuration of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system,PCV Hose and PCV Valve on Acura TL? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system reduces hydrocarbon emissions by scavenging crankcase vapors, circulating fresh air from the air intake duct into the crankcase, where it mixes with blow-by gases before being drawn by intake manifold vacuum through a PCV valve to the intake manifold. The PCV valve maintains idle quality by regulating the flow of crankcase vapors based on intake manifold vacuum levels. In 1999 models, the PCV fresh air inlet hose connects the air intake duct to a pipe on the left end of the front valve cover, while the crankcase ventilation hose connects a pipe on the left end of the rear valve cover to a pipe on the intake manifold. For 2000 through 2003 models, the configuration remains similar, but the crankcase ventilation hose runs along the top of the rear valve cover and connects to a pipe at the right rear corner of the intake manifold plenum, requiring removal of the intake manifold cover for access. In 2004 and later models, the fresh air inlet hose connects to a pipe on the left end of the rear valve cover, and the crankcase ventilation hose connects a pipe on the right end of the front valve cover to another pipe on the right end of the intake manifold, necessitating removal of the engine cover for access. To check the system on 2000 through 2006 models, the intake manifold cover must be removed, while for 2007 and later models, the engine cover is removed. The hoses should be inspected for damage, and the engine should be warmed up for testing. For 2003 and earlier models, the PCV valve can be tested by covering its open end while idling, while for 2004 and later models, pinching the PCV hose should produce a clicking sound from the valve. If issues are found, the PCV valve and hoses may need to be replaced, with specific steps for removal and installation outlined for different model years, including the need to replace O-rings and ensure proper torque during reassembly.
