By scavenging crankcase vapors, circulating fresh air from the air cleaner through the crankcase, where it mixes with blowby gases and rerouted through the PCV valve to the intake manifold, the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system reduces hydrocarbon emissions. The PCV system is made up of PCV valve, blow by filter and the vacuum hoses linking them to the engine. The PCV valve prevents excessive blowby gas flow back through the crankcase vent tube head into the air cleaner on normal combustion while maintaining idle quality; preventing excessive blowby gas flow back into the air cleaner under abnormal operating conditions such as piston ring conditions. It is necessary to check and replace the PCV valve for the proper system function.
