The Acura Legend Hood Latch helps protect the engine bay by locking the hood tight with every drive to prevent sudden hood openings and to protect the vital parts from the weather and theft. Built from factory-grade steel and durable spring and catch hardware, this Hood Latch contains a two-stage system, first locking onto the striker when the interior release is pulled and then locking fully once the hood is pressed down so it cannot fly up even at highway speeds. Across the years, Legend models shared this basic design, but some of the coupes and sedans incorporated an updated Hood Latch assembly that combines the steel clasp with a reinforced plastic housing, reducing weight while resisting corrosion. Earlier cars applied an all-metal body that was similar in strength and added mass. Also, coat the door latch strikers with a very thin layer of grease to reduce wear and to allow smooth operating.
