Acura Legend Oil Cooler

The Acura Legend Oil Cooler helps maintain engine temperatures by removing excess heat from the lubricating oil to protect viscosity when driving spiritedly or towing heavy loads. Inside every Acura coupe or sedan that bears the Legend badge, the Oil Cooler joins the coolant loop, allowing the antifreeze to absorb the heat of the oil so that it will warm up quickly but never get hot enough to reach damaging peaks. Early first generation models had a small oil-to-water core alongside the filter while later Legend versions acquired a slightly larger separate stack of their own. They are all based on the same heat exchanger principle of circulating coolant through tight passages alongside flowing oil. This arrangement avoids oil dilution problems when making steep climbs on hills or when running in heat in stop and go but heats the fluid more quickly on cold starts, providing more constant pressure and greater component life. As the maintenance of coolant is neglected, internal passages get plugged up or corroded and the performance of the Oil Cooler is limited. There is a chance of cross-contamination of oil and antifreeze. Still, for the majority of owners of Acura cars, the factory Legend system is a balanced compromise between rapid warm-up and high-load durability, eliminating the need for expensive and complex larger external units. Timely coolant service ensures Acura Oil Cooler efficiency. Respect this Oil Cooler and the engine will reward you by providing you with smooth, reliable power.

Acura Legend Oil Cooler Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install an Oil Cooler on an Acura Legend?
    A:
Wait until the engine totally cools down. Located between the oil filter and engine block, the oil cooler stands in the middle. Remove the oil filter and drain the coolant. In the next step, we want to disconnect both coolant lines from the oil cooler and cover up the fittings with caps or plugs ahead of time to catch the fluid that may leak out. To disconnect the oil pressure sensor wire, do it only on Legend vehicles. Take the cooler loose from the engine by removing its bolts. Follow these steps while installing: add a fresh seal between the engine block and oil cooler and tighten all coolant hose connections tightly at their fittings. After putting a new oil filter on, apply sealant to the bolts of the mounting on Legends models. Put in fresh oil filter and replace your engine's oil. Add coolant and oil as needed. Begin the engine and watch for oil and coolant dripping. Make sure to look again at the coolant and oil later.
