First unhook the negative terminal of the battery, then unhook the ignition coils, and the engine oil dipstick, and remove the valve cover. Then remove the
Intake Manifold, and the strut brace between the two shock towers, then disconnect the PCV hose from the valve cover. Lastly remove the bolt securing the power steering hose bracket at the rear valve cover (or move the hose aside if necessary). At each valve cover remove harness bracket bolts and set harness aside. For 2003 or older models, disconnect the electrical connector to the IMRC, unbolt and set aside the IMRC with its associated cable still attached. Lift the valve cover off with a block of wood and a hammer if it was stuck, then remove the retaining bolts. Be careful when reinstallation, do not pry at cover to head joint, as the sealing surfaces can be damaged, leading to oil leaks after reinstallation. Remove the original gasket and seal washers, clean the mating surfaces of the
Cylinder Head and valve cover. To install, place a new gasket in the groove, install new sealing washers on the bolts. Put the cover on and have you tighten the bolt to the measured torque in stages or to specified torque, but in that order. The rest is the reverse of removal and after this you run the engine to check for oil leaks.
