Acura TL Camshaft Position Sensor

The Acura TL Camshaft Position Sensor maintains the perfect order of the V6 firing by providing the engine control module with precise information about the cam angle and speed. This ensures fuel injectors pulse in synchronization with the sequence of firing and avoids stalling. In all TL generations, the sensor is positioned above the cam or near the cylinder head depending on the year, but the mission is never different. The Camshaft Position Sensor is applied with the crank sensor, and the duo works to ensure the piston and valve are aligned so the engine starts and ignites without a hitch. Early TL editions applied a single magnet-style Camshaft Position Sensor while later Acura sedans adopted a more heat-resistant hall-effect Camshaft Position Sensor fitted closer to the rear cylinder bank, which reduces signal noise and helps to improve feedback speed. Regardless of the type, a healthy Camshaft Position Sensor allows the TL tach to read true RPM and maintains even acceleration, while a failed unit may cause misfires or no-start situations. Regular checks on Acura electronics eliminate surprise breakdowns, and genuine Acura components fit with no wiring to change.

Acura TL Camshaft Position Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Install the Camshaft Position Sensor on an Acura TL?
    A:
For 2001 and earlier models, the CMP (TDC) sensors are located on the right end of the front cylinder head. Begin by disconnecting the CMP sensor electrical connector by depressing the release button and pulling the upper half of the connector straight up from its mounting bracket. Next, remove the timing belt cover and the timing belt, followed by the sprocket from the camshaft in the front cylinder head. Detach the rear timing belt cover by removing the mounting bolts and then take off the cover. Remove the CMP (TDC) sensor mounting bolts to detach the sensors from the rear timing belt cover and then remove the sensors. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. For 2002 and later models, the CMP sensor is also located at the right end of the front cylinder head. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CMP sensor by depressing the release tab and pulling off the connector. Remove the timing belt cover, the timing belt, and the camshaft sprocket. Detach the rear timing belt cover by removing the mounting bolts and then take off the cover. Remove the CMP sensor mounting bolt to detach the sensor from the rear part of the timing belt cover. Installation is the reverse of removal.
