Civic models and some Integra models use Mitsubishi alternators, which require major disassembly for brush and regulator replacement, making it advisable to seek a qualified repair shop. For Nippondenso alternators, replacing the brushes and regulator is practical, but a complete overhaul should be avoided; if issues persist after replacement, consult a dealer service department or repair shop for rebuilding or exchanging the unit. Begin by removing the alternator and placing it on a clean workbench. Next, detach the three rear cover nuts, the nut and terminal insulator, and the rear cover. After that, take out the two brush holder retaining screws and remove the brush holder from the rear end frame. Measure the exposed length of the brushes and compare it to the specified minimum length; if it is less than specified, replace the brush. Ensure that each brush moves smoothly in the brush holder. To remove the voltage regulator, first take out the brushes, then unscrew the mounting screws to detach the regulator. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring the brush holder is installed by depressing the brush with a small screwdriver to clear the shaft.
