Remove the rear seat. Lift both the Fuel Level Sensor cover (if your vehicle has one) and the access cover from your vehicle's floor, along with the protective bar and sending unit access cover on Integras. Unplug the electrical connection at the sensor. When the sending unit locks into the housing with special tabs, press down on the locking ring with a brass punch until the tabs click into place. Loosen any nuts holding the sending unit in place. Carefully take out the fuel level sending unit that's sitting in the tank, being gentle so you don't break the float arm. Touch the specific ends of the ohmmeter's probes to the electrical connector pins and record the resistance values for each float position - top, middle, and bottom - with the fuel gauge float high, half-way down, and low. To check, place the float at lowest point inside the fuel tank and measure the resistance in sending unit; this reading should fall within the specified range. Then, check if the sending unit works correctly by moving the float while reading it halfway between being raised and lowered. Match the reading you get with what's in the manual. After you measure the resistance with the float in full tank, take readings again. If the measuring tool gets the readings wrong or the resistance stays low when the balloon moves up and down, go replace the tool. Installing the sending unit follows removal, with a new gasket put underneath the sealing flange.
