To remove the timing belt, start by taking off the oil pan, followed by the oil pick-up tube and screen from the pump housing and main bearing cap bridge, ensuring to remove the oil pick-up tube bolts. Next, detach the bolts from the oil pump housing to separate the assembly from the engine, and then disassemble the oil pump by removing the cover screws, which may require an impact screwdriver to avoid stripping. For inspection, check the oil pump rotor-to-cover clearance, tooth tip clearance, and rotor-to-body clearance using a feeler gauge and straight-edge, comparing measurements to specified limits; replace the pump if any measurements exceed these limits. Remove the pressure relief valve plug to extract the spring and plunger, checking for distortion and scoring, and replace parts as necessary. When installing the pump rotors, pack the spaces between them with petroleum jelly to prime the pump, then apply thread-locking compound to the cover screws, install the cover, and tighten the screws to the specified torque. Reinstall the oil pressure relief valve and spring assembly with a new sealing washer on the plug, tightening it securely. Apply a thin coat of anaerobic sealant to the pump housing-to-block sealing surface along with a new O-ring, then install the pump housing to the engine block and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Next, install the oil pick-up tube and screen with a new gasket, tightening the bolts accordingly, and finally, reinstall the oil pan. Complete the installation by reversing the removal steps, adding the specified type and quantity of oil and coolant, running the engine, and checking for leaks.
