To remove the timing belt, start by taking off the oil pan, followed by the oil pick-up tube and screen from the pump housing and main bearing cap bridge. Next, remove the bolts from the oil pump housing to separate the assembly from the engine. Disassemble the oil pump by removing the screws, using an impact screwdriver if necessary to avoid stripping the heads. For inspection, check the oil pump rotor-to-cover clearance, tooth tip clearance, and rotor-to-body clearance with a feeler gauge and straight edge, ensuring measurements are within specified limits; replace the pump if any measurements are out of range. Remove the pressure relief valve plug and extract the spring and plunger, inspecting for distortion and scoring, replacing parts as needed. Install the pump rotors, packing the spaces between them with petroleum jelly to prime the pump. Apply thread-locking compound to the pump cover screws, install the cover, and tighten the screws to the specified torque, then install the oil pressure relief valve and spring assembly with a new sealing washer on the plug. For installation, apply a thin coat of R1V sealant to the pump housing-to-block sealing surface and a new O-ring in the pump housing, then install the pump housing to the engine block and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Install the oil pick-up tube and screen with a new gasket, tightening the bolts to the specified torque, and then reinstall the oil pan. Finally, complete the installation in reverse order, adding the specified type and quantity of oil and coolant, running the engine, and checking for leaks.
