    Hold the strut piston rod using an Allen wrench and unscrew the thrust bearing retaining nut with a box-end wrench. Remove the nut and upper mount, and lay out the components in the order they were removed. Inspect the bearing for smooth operation and the rubber portion of the upper mount for any signs of damage.
