Disconnect the battery's negative terminal. For 2001-2004 Acura and Honda models, unlatch the ATF cooler hose clamp and move the hose. Remove the starter's upper and lower bolts. For 2003-2006 Acura and all Honda models, detach the harness clamp from the starter bracket. For 2007 Acura models, remove the air filter housing, battery, and transaxle dipstick. Disconnect the wires from the starter motor solenoid. For 2003 and later Acura and 2005 and later Honda models, remove the electrical connector and starter cable. Disconnect wiring clips, remove starter bolts, and remove the starter. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Firstly, ensure the battery cable clamps are clean and securely connected to the battery terminals. Inspect the condition of the battery cables, replacing any faulty ones. Test the battery's condition and replace it if it fails the tests. Check the wiring and connections of the starter solenoid. Verify the tightness of the starter mounting bolts. Examine the engine compartment fuse and relay box fuses, addressing any burnt ones and repairing the circuit's root cause. Additionally, scrutinize the ignition switch circuit for proper operation. Evaluate the gear position switch (for automatic transaxles) or clutch start circuit (for manual transaxles), ensuring that they function correctly when the shift lever is in PARK or NEUTRAL (for automatics) or the clutch pedal is depressed (for manuals). Finally, check the operation of the starter cut relay, located in the fuse/relay box under the driver's side dashboard.
