The throttle control cable regulates the shift points of the automatic transaxle and should not be confused with the accelerator cable, which actuates the air intake throttle body for the fuel injection system. Before checking the throttle control cable, ensure the accelerator cable freeplay and idle speed are correct. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature, then verify that the throttle control lever on the transaxle is synchronized with the accelerator linkage while depressing and releasing the accelerator pedal. If synchronization is not achieved, adjust the throttle control cable. Have an assistant depress the accelerator pedal to the full-throttle position and check for a little freeplay in the throttle control lever on the transaxle. Disconnect the end of the throttle control cable from the throttle control lever at the transaxle and ensure the lever moves smoothly; if not, consult a transmission specialist or qualified repair shop. Reconnect the throttle control cable to the throttle control lever, then verify that the accelerator lever is in the fully closed position. Loosen the throttle control cable locknut at the upper end near the throttle body, and while pushing the throttle control lever to the fully closed position, remove all freeplay from the throttle control cable by tightening the adjusting nut. Finally, tighten the locknut and check the synchronization and throttle control lever movement, ensuring there is a little freeplay in the throttle control lever at the transaxle when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed to prevent potential damage to the lever or control mechanism.

If it does not meet specifications, loosen the locknut and adjust the nut until the deflection is correct, then tighten the locknut and turn off the engine.
