Detach the cable from the negative battery terminal, ensuring you have the correct activation code for the stereo's anti-theft system if applicable. Loosen the locknut and remove the accelerator cable from its bracket. Rotate the throttle shaft bellcrank to free the cable from its guide groove and detach it from the bellcrank, removing the cable end from the throttle shaft bellcrank recess in the pedal. Working underneath the dash, detach the cable from the accelerator pedal by pulling the cable end out and lifting it out. Pull the grommet from the firewall and extract the cable through the firewall from the engine compartment side. For installation, reverse the removal steps, using the locknut and adjusting nut to achieve the correct throttle cable deflection, then adjust the cable. Start the engine and warm it up until the cooling fan activates, then let it idle. Check the cable deflection between the bellcrank and the cable bracket, ensuring it measures 3/8 to 1/2-inch. If it does not meet specifications, loosen the locknut and adjust the nut until the deflection is correct, then tighten the locknut and turn off the engine. After adjusting the throttle cable, have an assistant verify that the throttle valve opens fully when the accelerator pedal is pressed to the floor and returns to the idle position when released, ensuring the cable operates smoothly without binding or sticking. If the vehicle has an automatic transaxle, adjust the transaxle Throttle Valve (TV) cable accordingly.
