The Acura Integra Battery provides the momentary burst of electric power required to start the engine as well as powering lights, sound and memory functions when the car is silent. Early Acura models applied traditional flooded lead-acid Battery units with liquid electrolyte which required regular water top-ups. Later Integra models switched to maintenance-free flooded lead-acid designs and to absorbed glass mat technology which fixes the acid in fiberglass sheets, suppresses evaporation and is more resistant to vibration. Every Battery, however designed, has six cells to which positive lead-dioxide plates are connected with negative sponge-lead plates to form the common 12-volt output. Integra owners also vary in the layout of terminals with top or side posts joining it to the electrical system. Cold-weather drivers prefer high cold cranking amps such that the Acura starter turns quickly and high reserve capacity ensures stereo and security systems remain powered as long as the Battery is the only source of power and the alternator is not supplying power.
