Attach a piece of stiff wire to the release lever end of the cable, then remove all cable retaining clips. Push the grommet through the firewall and pull the cable into the engine compartment, ensuring the new cable has a grommet attached before replacing the old cable. Finally, pull the wire back through the firewall and complete the installation by pushing the grommet to seat it fully in the firewall.
