Acura Legend Relay

The Acura Legend Relay helps protect the car's climate system by serving as an electrically controlled switch that directs power to key components in the climate system such as the fan and blower motor. Positioned between low-power control signals and higher-draw devices, the Relay completes or breaks contacts using an internal electromagnet. A small dashboard command makes the internal electromagnet energize the larger circuit that cools or heats the cabin. When the Relay fails, however, the fan or blower can stop instantly, leaving Acura drivers to replace the part to obtain full A/C function without the cost of more expensive hardware. Early Legend models came with the conventional electromechanical versions, but later editions introduced the solid-state or magnetic latching Relay styles that retain their setting after a brief pulse, thus providing comfort even if the voltage undergoes flickering. Today, each unit still translates accurate sensor and switch data into reliable power flow, and modern Acura electronics monitor the power flow to prevent error codes from ruining a drive. This little Relay device staying healthy is one of the reasons every Legend is a year-round comfortable driver.

Acura Legend Relay Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do Relays Function in the Electrical System, and How Should Faulty Relays Be Managed on an Acura Legend?
    A:
A relay is defective if any of the several electrical accessories in the vehicle that make use of the relay to transmit electrical signals to components do not work properly. Multiple locations throughout the vehicle see these relays grouped together. If you suspect a bad relay, it can be removed and tested by the dealer service department or repair shop and bad relays must be replaced as a unit.
