For models from 2007 and later, you'll need to remove the battery and battery tray, before removing the air intake duct and air filter housing. Secondly, press the centre console and take the shift lever up into Reverse, then unscrew the locking nut from the shift lever pin and the cable end from its bracket. For models 2006 and earlier, twist the cable housing end a quarter turn and remove the cable end from the bracket, for models 2007 and newer push down the button on the cable end to release. Raising the vehicle up securely on jackstands then pry loose the rubber boot where the cable passes through the floorpan. Take the shift cable guide bracket and grommet away from the vehicle, then remove the bolts where the shift cable holder resides in the cover. For 2006 and earlier models remove the locking bolt securing the shift arm to the shaft. For later models remove the nuts holding the cable bracket in place and the disconnected the cable end of the shift from the shift arm. Installation follows removal, except not to connect the cable to the shift lever bracket yet, and after removing the shift cable assembly. With the ignition off, keep the shift lever in Reverse, reinstall the arm to the transaxle, and attach the end of the cable to the lockbolt and new washer (earlier models); or the pin and spring clip (later models). Shift cable cover and bracket need to be replaced and reinstalled with as little bending of the cable as possible. Check R position indicator inside the vehicle, turn the ignition to ON and push the shift cable into it till it stops and back one click in Reverse. Place the tip of a 0.24 inch pin in the holes in the shift lever bracket and alignment holes in the lever, index the socket holder on the shift cable into the bracket base and shove the cable end into the bracket. Place the shift cable end on to the end of the shift lever pin and tighten it down with a nut. Align pin, turn the ignition on without starting the engine, make sure the gear position indicator lights work. Then, exactly the same as the removal steps, reverse the installation process.
