Detach the cable from the negative battery terminal, and for Legend models, remove the control box from the firewall located directly above the accelerator cable. Loosen the locknut and remove the accelerator cable from its bracket using an open-end wrench, then rotate the throttle shaft bellcrank until the cable is out of its guide groove and detach the cable from the bellcrank. Working underneath the dash, detach the cable from the accelerator pedal linkage and pull the grommet from the firewall, pulling the cable through from the engine compartment side. Installation is the reverse of removal. To adjust the cable, lift it to remove slack, then turn the adjusting nut until it is 3 mm (1/8-inch) from the cable bracket and tighten the locknut. Check cable deflection at the throttle linkage, which should be between 3/8 to 1/2-inch; if not, adjust accordingly. After adjusting, verify that the throttle valve opens fully when the accelerator pedal is pressed to the floor and returns to the idle position when released, ensuring the cable operates smoothly without binding or sticking. If the vehicle has an automatic transaxle, adjust the transaxle throttle valve cable, and if equipped with cruise control, have the cruise control cable adjusted by a dealer service department or repair shop.
