Acura MDX Rocker Arm

The Acura MDX Rocker Arm converts the rotary movement of the camshaft into the linear movement of pushing each valve open or shut in turn. This allows the air/fuel mixture in and exhaust out at the appropriate time. As observed across Acura MDX model years, the Rocker Arm is on the cylinder head in an overhead cam layout, eliminating the use of long pushrods and reducing weight. Earlier versions of center pivot designs applied stamped steel levers, while later Acura MDX versions applied roller-tipped or full-roller Rocker Arm setups with needle bearings and spinning tips to reduce friction, withstand high rpm, and increase valve lift. Each design has the same goal but varies in the way it reduces drag, with the full-roller offering the greatly smooth movement due to the bearings at both the pivot and valve ends. Wear or excess clearance can cause clatter of the valve, power loss, or warning lights because once a Rocker Arm is loose, it will cause more pounding, springs will find it difficult, and timing will go out of alignment.
