Acura TL models from 1999 through 2003 are equipped with exhaust manifolds, while later models utilize catalytic converter assemblies bolted directly to the
Cylinder Heads. To remove the exhaust manifold or converter, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and spray penetrating oil on the fasteners, allowing it to soak. Block the rear wheels to prevent rolling, set the parking brake, and place the transaxle in Park. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the splash guard from below the engine compartment. Disconnect the exhaust pipes from the manifolds, remove the bolts and heat shields from each manifold, and take off the self-locking nuts retaining the manifold or converter to the cylinder head, discarding the old nuts and obtaining new ones for reassembly. Inspect the manifold for cracks and warpage, replacing it if necessary. For installation, use a scraper to clean any old gasket material and carbon deposits from the mating surfaces, position a new gasket over the cylinder head studs, and install the manifold while threading the mounting nuts into place. Tighten the nuts to the specified torque, apply engine oil to the studs, and install new self-locking nuts. Finally, run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
