Before removing the valve cover you need to remove the radio cable from the negative battery terminal, if the radio has a theft deterring system use the correct activation code first. Remove the distributor cap and wires from their connections marked to be replaced correctly. Before you remove the throttle body or valve cover, detach any hoses or wires from the throttle body or valve cover that will impede with the removal process and clean the valve cover from any contaminates that will be taken on the cylinder head or cam shaft assembly. Remove the valve cover nuts and washers, then lift off the valve cover and gasket carefully-or use a rubber mallet to break the gasket seal if the gasket sticks. For installation, remove original gasket and clean mating surfaces of cylinder head and valve cover with rag soaked in lacquer thinner or acetone. Inspect and change any cracked or trashed sealing grommets or rubber seals at the spark plug wells; make sure the rubber spark plug seals are fitting correctly. Wipe a bead of RTV sealant on the angles of where the rocker arm assembly joins the cylinder head and leave to set for about five minutes. Replace the valve cover with the molded rubber gasket installed in the groove around the perimeter of the valve cover, and secure the valve cover back into place using the sealing grommets and nuts, in the order that the nuts should be tightened. And finally, reverse the removal on the installation.
