If working on a Civic or Integra, pull the center console for replacement, for a CR-V you remove the instrument panel lower cover and steering column covers. For Integra or Civic models, remove the shift cable retaining clip at the end of the cable, loosen the locknut, and remove the cable from bracket; for CR-V models remove the retaining clip from the cable adjuster and detach the cable from its bracket. Bolt the shift cable bracket off, raise the front of the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Shift cable cover (on 4WD CR-V) secured with bolts at 4 locations is removed, followed by removal of the shift cable from the floorpan and the cable from the brace, and detach the shift cable holder from the floorpan. To remove this cable for 2WD models, remove the nut and free the control lever from the control shaft, or to remove this cable for 4WD models completely remove the clip and the retaining pin and then free the cable from the lever ensuring that the cable has not been bent during removal or installation. Detaching the cable casing from the floorpan, pull the cable (which is to infer the grommet) out of the floorpan, unscrew the nuts on CR-V models. After installation the shift cable can be adjusted. If adjustment isn't already done, remove center console or steering column covers, shift to Neutral and remove the cable adjuster retaining clip. Verify that the hole in the adjuster is exactly on with the hole in the shift cable, since the two holes in the end of the shift cable are used to adjust in 1/4 turn increments. Adjust as needed, retighten, if misaligned loosen the locknut on the shift cable. Adjuster, install retaining clip on adjuster, cable is still out of adjustment, adjusting clip does not bind. To remove Civic and Integra shift indicator panel, remove the shift indicator panel mounting screws and align marks by sliding the panel before tightening firmly. Verify for all models that the shift lever aligns with the Neutral mark on the shift indicator panel on the transaxle in Neutral, as necessary, for Civic and Integra models; adjust the shift indicator panel for Civic and Integra models. If so, start the engine and check out the shift lever in every gear.
